Domaining Question of the Day: Why do Domain Name Parking Companies profit from cybersquatters?

Thursday, January 3, 2013 14:51

cybersquatting

The question was raised to why domain name parking sites are not exposed for harboring cybersquatters who make money from parked typo and trademark domain names.

When I started out back in 2000, I had no idea what Domaining was and why domain names would be a great investment. It wasn’t until 2005 that I started to shift my focus to domain name investments.  There was no billboard to explain Domaining in detail; the industry was flooded with Veteran Domainers who kept all their secrets to themselves and sold eBooks at prices that the average Domainer could not afford!

Majority of us learned the hard way what was ethical and unethical.   Back then on domain name forums Domainers purchased and resold typos and trademark domain names on an hourly basis.

Domaining question of the day emailed to me yesterday; questioned why domain name parking sites are not exposed for profiting from cybersquatters who generate tens of thousands of dollars parking their domain names with them?!

One of the top domain name parking companies is profiting from 400 000+ typo domain names according to John the Domainer.  According to John, a list of industry leaders on top of the Domaining Food Chain profit from cybersquatters on yearly basis.

Is it fair to label these companies as cybersquatters if their harboring and profiting from cybersquatters?

If we want change in our industry it has to start from the top of the food chain.  On the bottom of the Domaining Food Chain only thing we could do is publish articles like this to raise awareness.

Until my next Domaining Question of the Day Article, Happy Domaining!
